Sad news this morning that Kak Channthy; the lead vocalist of Cambodia Space Project has died in a tragic traffic accident in her native city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Along with others of her generation that survived the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge and then Civil War, she along with the rest of CSP rebuilt the cultural identity of the Cambodia that Pol Pot and his murderous regime that tried to extinguish contemporary culture in the South East Asian Country.

But I seems that no one can survive the hellish roads of todays Phnom Penh, where uninsured and unlicensed drivers drive with impunity amongst unhelmeted motorcyclists whilst the government continues to reduce the age and requirements of drivers to sustain popularity in the upcoming and fixed elections in July.

It seems that the the government has a blood on its hands and Cambodia has lost one of its few international voices.
